Red Formats


Red Cover and Spine Example There were three different red formats. All the formats have the following in common.
  • The books are 7-5/8" x 5-1/4"
  • The covers are a solid red, the texture of the cover is the main difference in the formats.
  • On the spine is a zigzag pattern with the title of the volume, the author's name (John Blaine) and the publisher, Grosset & Dunlap.
  • The cover of the book has the title of the book at the top, a lightning bolt in a circle with the wording "A Rick Brant Electronic Adventure" and the author's name at the bottom
  • The endpapers are a slate blue on white paper showing Spindrift Island off the coast of New Jersey.
  • The frontispiece is a black line drawing on white paper.
  • The dust jackets are white-coated paper with a different illustration for each volume.

 


Red 1 - R1

Red 1 Format Example
  • Volumes 1 through 4.  
  • Rust-red smooth composition binding.  
  • Rough quality paper (war paper).  It is usually yellowed.
  • No list of books at beginning of the book.
  • No "Next Book" blurb at the end of the book.

 


Red 2 - R2

Red 2 Format Example
  • Volumes 1 through 6
  • Bright Red leather-like textured composition binding.
  • Paper quality is better than Red 1

 


Red 3 - R3

Red 3 Format Example
  • Volumes 1 through 7.
  • Bright red rectangular, woven textured composition binding
